Patsey's grave stone

Last spring, Blythe Jamieson's imagination was captured by an overgrown cemetery with a tumbled-down stone wall. The old cemetery, on Mary and Bob West's Millford Farm, has a single gravestone.

Mary and Bob joined Blythe's efforts to restore the cemetery. Through Midway Renaissance, they put out a call for volunteers to help with clean-up and research. Members of the Greenspace Committee, Midway Living History Committee, and local history buffs worked on several weekends to clean the small family plot. Over the summer the Wests invested in having the beautiful dry stone wall surrounding the cemetery restored.

Blythe explored census records and deeds, and Renaissance put out a call to the community to discover any information about the family of the young woman buried under the cemetery's lone gravestone, but no history has been found.

Blythe invited the community to a gathering at the cemetery on Friday August 19, the 162nd anniversary of Patsey's death - a celebration of the restoration progress and another call for any information to solve the mystery of this small family burial ground.
